A Retreat Idea for Your Women’s Group: Quilt Retreat

    Submitted by Kathryn Mikesh Houser
The first Mid-American Baptist Quilters Retreat was held on one of the snowiest weekends of 2013, May 3-4, at a retreat center in Oelwein, IA. The seven participants enjoyed working on three small quilts for Bethel Neighborhood Center, Kansas City, MO, as well as their own personal projects. Such a good time was had by all that we planned two more quilt retreats!

In early November 2013, a dozen quilters gathered for three days of fun and fellowship at Dayton Oaks Baptist Camp in Dayton, IA. Each person brought a personal project or two, but also contributed to the group mission project, which was making pillowcases for the ranchers at Rainbow Acres, Camp Verde, AZ. Before heading for home, the 31 pillowcases that had been made by the retreat participants were dedicated.

Our third quilt retreat is planned for the first weekend of May, 2014, again in Oelwein, IA. Our project for this retreat is to complete a quilt top for Quilts of Valor. The quilt, once finished, will be given to a military person who is connected to one of our Mid-American Baptist Churches.
