Substance Related Challenges 101: Increasing Awareness and Knowledge with the Goal of Supporting Others

    October 8, 2020

As a result of participation in this informative webinar, participants will learn more about the disease of addiction and the challenges faced by those who have complicated relationships with substances.  In addition, guests to the presentation will dive into the particular issues often experienced by women and girls, while understanding that addiction can be a highly individual and unique process. To raise awareness and increase knowledge and understanding, participants will engage in discussion about risk and protective factors and signs and symptoms of substance related challenges with the hopes of increasing ability to promote protective factors, decrease risk factors and intervene/support those who may be involved. Various resources will be discussed and provided so that participants have a wealth of knowledge regarding where to turn when faced with challenges related to substance misuse.  Language is often an important part of becoming supportive allies to a community struggling with substance related challenges or trying to navigate recovery; guests will engage in discussion that promotes inclusive and supportive language.  Last, but certainly not least, guests will have an opportunity to ask questions related to the topic of addiction/substance use/misuse and engage in deeper discussion that will enhance and promote continued learning.
